Da Patrick on Sean Hammer

Listen to me on the latest edition of Sean Hammer where I talk about my views on flyers in the 40k universe as well as talk about some of GW's practices lately with their missing releases in new codecii. It was very nice of Sean to allow me to come on his podcast and I would like to thank him for that. He made some great points about the Stormraven.

Also of note, Sean is currently giving away a FREE Island of Blood Box set on his podcast, so listen for more details on that.

Then and Now

As my local gaming group gets back into Blood Bowl, I was offered a unique opportunity to expand on one of the games that I started in the hobby. Looking forward to this for a while, I pulled my old Undead team out of the attic in my parents house. I brought it home with me and enjoyed not only the state of the miniatures, but also this farside comic that I had poked inside of it.
One of the things I first encountered skipping from 2nd or 3rd edition Blood Bowl to 5th and now 6th edition of the Living Rule Book was a fundamental change in the game and I had to upgrade my team as I could no longer have a star player as a permanent member of the team. I had to upgrade the team.

And so upgrade I did, I bought the Undead extra blister that brought the team perfectly from 12 members up to 16 in the fashion that you want, with two extra Ghouls and one each of the skeleton and zombie. Due to the limited number of sculpts as well as the overall second edition feel of the models meant that the new blister contained all models that I have previously had in my collection.

So I painted up the models, as I had done about 15 or 16 years ago. It was a weird surreal experience and once complete, I was generally happy with the results of the new models. That said, I don't think I will ever strip my old blood bowl minis, I want to be able to remember where I have come from, despite pressure from some of my gaming group to advance my team to these new standards.
think it is important to remember where you started and where you came from.

Even though these models were painted up a long time ago, I can remember being rather proud of them. I had worked long and hard on them and were happy with the progress. If I was asked to describe them without having recently seen them, or even pick them out of a line-up, I don't think I would have been able to do either reliably.

And so it is that every time I see someone's models and I even begin to criticize their paint job, I think back to these models and think of just how far I have come along in my painting ability.

As we wind down season one of blood bowl, I am thinking of retiring my current team and playing a Necromantic team and even though almost all of the models will be the same, I think I will still buy a new Necromantic box set so that I can run all new models, or perhaps upgrade my old models as they gain skills. More on that to come in the future, I am sure.
